H.H. Chatral Sangye Dorje Rinpoche
  

H.H. Chatral Rinpoche was born in 1913 into the Apse tribal group of Nyarong province of Kham, Tibet and soon migrated to Amdo, Tibet

At the age of fifteen, he abandoned his ties with his family and went to many teachers to study and practice.

He received the transmissions of the Terma cycles of Dudjom Lingpa and Sera Khandro and others from Sera Khandro herself and from Tulku Dorje Dradul Rinpoche, the youngest some of Dudjom Lingpa.

H
e received the transmissions and teachings of Longchen Nyingthig and many other teachings from Kathok Khenpo Ngawang Palzang (1879-1941)

H.H. Chatral Rimpoche transmitted rare teachings to to many important teachers, such as Khentse Chokyi Lodro Rinpoche and H.H. Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche.

At the of the 1950s he moved to Bhutan,  then India, and then to Pharping, Nepal, where he still resides.  He built many temples, retreat centers and stupas in India and Nepal.

 

H.H. Chatral Rinpoche resists any involvement in monastic or bureaucratic structures and maintains a hermit tradition.  He has numerous disciples from Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, India, as well as some from the West.
